What’s in the news? 🗞️

💄Marvellous Mrs. Nayar

Nykaa went weekend shopping and invested in 3 companies for roughly INR 50 cr:

1) A 18.51% stake in science-focused beauty brand Earth Rhythm. A skincare acquisition after Dot & Key last year.

2) A 60% in Nudge Wellness, in partnership with Onesto (parent of Chemist at Play, Bare Anatomy, and SunScoop SPF) to create of nutraceutical & wellness products.

3) A 100% stake in the athleisure brand Kica (housed under Nykaa fashion amongst the likes of Nykd, Pipa Bella, Gajra Gang, IYKYK, and Likha).

But why is Nykaa making these strategic investments? In its attempt to create a community and commerce marketplace for women, along with horizontal expansion across offline, online channels, Nykaa has chosen to go deep, vertically too!

👩‍🍼 A digital nanny

Mylo, an online health tool and community platform for new and expecting mothers, raises USD 17 mn in funding led by W Health Ventures, ITC, Endiya Partners. Besides personalized content and an active community, Mylo offers its users D2C brands in personal care, premium Ayurveda and daily essentials.

👩‍🎤 Celebrity brands

  • Actor Rakul Preet backs health and nutrition startup Wellbeing Nutrition.

  • Actor Anushka Sharma invests in Children-focussed snack brand Brand Slurrp Farm

  • Singers Shankar Mahadevan & Kailash Kher make an endless alaap for Zepto.

  • Comedian Roshan Joshi is now promoting the brand with world’s first Portion-Controlled Chocolate (The Whole Truth Foods).

🍪 D2C Bites

  • Amazon India acquired Bengaluru-based social commerce startup GlowRoad in an all-cash deal marking an entry into the social commerce segment.

  • Delhivery, Ecom Express, and Xpressbees have simultaneously increased shipment charges by as much as 35-40% for logistics aggregators such as Shiprocket.

Cora is finding wealth in health with its curated marketplace for wellness. Healthy breakfasts, snacks, keto and vegan foods, kitchen staples, and superfoods, and lots more with assisted buying through nutritionists on board.

👖 Leisure sees no size

Aastey is India’s first sustainable athleisure brand for all body types and sizes. Their hero products; the “werk it” set and the gender-fluid jacket are the first of their kind in the performance fashion space for women. Their webstore features engaging properties like a fabric library, an option to join their tribe, sustainability tips, and more.
